About PNM

Pacific New Media Foundation (PNM) is one of the most comprehensive and dynamic training sites of its kind in the country. Formerly affiliated with UHM Mānoa, PNM is now a (501-C3) nonprofit organization and our programs take place on the Chaminade University campus. Currently celebrating our thirtieth Anniversary, PNM presents a broad series of programs—seminars, public talks, classes and short, intensive workshops—in film/video, photography, digital imaging, graphic and web design. Workshops feature both prominent local and U.S. mainland professionals, many of whom are the acknowledged leaders in their field, who share their expertise and insight with Hawaii residents.

Our mission is to balance creativity with technology and equip Hawaii individuals and businesses with the tools and information they need to effectively explore our rapidly changing digital environment and participate in shaping our digital future.

PNM endeavors to make technological and conceptual advances in film/video, photography, digital imaging, graphic and web design available so Hawaii residents can stay abreast of recent developments in their professional fields, have access to nationally recognized faculty, and take advantage of educational opportunities that compete with mainland offerings.

Toward accomplishing these ends, PNM collaborates with numerous civic and professional organizations to ensure that course offerings are timely and relevant and serve the broadest possible audience.

Among the organizations that PNM actively collaborates with are Apple Computer, American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), Adobe, Canon USA, UHM Art Department, UHM Academy of Creative Media, ThinkTech Hawaii, Center for Asian American Media, Hawaii Community Television, HMAUS, the downtown Honolulu business community, U.S. Military graphics departments, and others. Many K-12 teachers and University faculty take advantage of programs to better serve their own students.

PNM offers 30-40 short intensive classes and workshops per semester (Spring, Summer, Fall), with beginning, intermediate, and advanced programs and flexible scheduling to meet the needs of busy professionals and students.  Each semester PNM brings several visiting artists—nationally recognized filmmakers, photographers, and graphic/web designers—to Hawaii.  PNM workshops and free public talks enroll an average of 2,000 to 3,000 individuals per year.
