Join us for a virtual conversation about distance learning in Hawaii

In mid-March, public schools across the state closed their doors in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Now that the school year has officially ended, students, parents, teachers and administrators can look back at the last few months and prepare for what the education landscape may look like in the Fall.

Join Civil Beat’s education reporter, Suevon Lee, as she hosts a virtual conversation about what distance learning has looked like in the time of coronavirus thus far. We’ll touch on the challenges that come with remote learning, focus on the new roles and expectations of educators, parents and students, and conclude with a discussion of some long-term needs to support our schools and students.

Speakers:

  • Suevon Lee, Education Reporter (moderator)
  • Kevin Argueta, 5th grade Special Education Inclusion teacher at Kahakai Elementary
  • Janice Blaber, Principal at Kea’au Elementary School
  • Deborah Bond-Upson, Board Member for Parents for Public Schools Hawaii
  • Kawika Pegram, 2020 Waipahu High School graduate and youth activist

This online conversation will be guided in large part by questions from readers and attendees. We encourage you to submit your questions in advance, and please RSVP to the event to receive the link and password.
