CyberHawaii, a local nonprofit organization, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the lead federal agency on cybersecurity and critical infrastructure security and resilience, are hosting a webinar on security leadership on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 2 pm to 3 pm (HST).

This is the second session in the 2024 Fortify Cybersecurity Webinar Series, sponsored by CISA and CyberHawaii. This webinar series was made possible by a grant from the Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. Other supporters of this series include the State Office of Homeland Security, the FBI, Chamber of Commerce Hawai‘i, the Hawai‘i Defense Alliance and the University of Hawai‘i.

Session Description:

Leadership is key to establishing a resilient and effective security program in your business. The best perimeter controls and network scanning tools will be ineffective if your companyʻs leadership is not committed to protecting the critical assets of your business. You must hire the right people to focus on implementing a comprehensive security program that addresses all the significant risks to your business.

Your Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Chief Security Officer (CSO), Chief Data Privacy Officer (CDPO) or Chief Risk Officer can influence your companyʻs leadership. However, leadership is not vested in a title. The role of the CISO or CSO can be performed by an executive or business owner who is responsible for other functions besides security. Factor security into the strategic and operational workings of your business so that security risk is just as important as financial risk, operational risk, and employment risk. Even the smallest of businesses can create an effective security culture without a significant investment in resources.

Presenters:

Jennilyn LaBrunda, a Cybersecurity Advisor (CSA) with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) for the Pacific Islands, will lead this session. She is responsible for Hawaii, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, and American Samoa.

Guam-based LaBrunda is an experienced cybersecurity and information technology professional with over 15 years of experience. She is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a graduate of the University of Guam with a double major in technology & e-commerce and computer information systems.

Charissa Wong, information security and technology manager for Bowers + Kubota, has more than 20 years of experience in information technology and security management.

Wong holds a CISSP certification and owns Cyber Kia‘i, a security consulting firm whose mission is to help Hawai‘i businesses improve their security posture.

She is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and the University of Oregon, and is an active member in the local cybersecurity community, which includes serving as the vice president of ISC2 Hawaii. Wong is also a member of the CIO Council and CyberHawaii.
