Hawaii P-20 Pathways Summit 2020

Hawai’i P-20 Partnerships for Education invites you to attend the 2020 Hawai’i P-20 Pathways Summit: A Focus on Equity, Innovation, and Partnerships. This one-day statewide convening will focus on collaboratively building clear and coherent college and career pathways for students towards high-demand, living wage careers in Hawaii, and will be organized around the following pathway design components:
- Rigorous Academics
- College & Career Counseling and Advising
- Work-based Learning
- Cross-Sector Partnerships
- Data Use
EVENT DETAILS
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Joel Vargas, Vice President of Programs, Jobs for the Future, will be the keynote speaker. Joel Vargas’ work experience has been focused on building educational pathways for underserved populations, where he supports the efforts of leaders of regional networks to advance high-leverage cross-sector strategies for improving economic mobility.
SAMPLE BREAKOUT SESSIONS INCLUDE:
- Illuminating Career Pathways with Social Emotional Learning
- Equity Strategies for Early College
- Supporting Students in Planning Their Futures through Family and Community Engagement
- Bridging the Education and Industry Divide
AUDIENCE: This statewide convening will bring together HIDOE middle and high schools, UH campuses, and Industry and Community Partners who play a critical role along a student’s college and career pathway. We encourage Secondary and Postsecondary Educators and Administrators, Complex and State Office Leadership, and Industry and Community Partners working to build or implement college and career pathways to attend.
REGISTRATION: Seats are limited for this FREE Event.
*Limited travel funding will be available for neighbor island participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. Due to space constraints, please see the guidance below to assist in determining who to potentially send from your school, campus or complex based on the event content.
DEADLINE for event registration and Neighbor Island Travel requests: January 24, 2020.
SUGGESTED PARTICIPANTS:
- Middle Schools: Administrator, Counselor
- High Schools: Administrator, CTE/Academy Corodinator, Counselor, or equivalent position
- UH Campus: Chancellors, Vice Chancellors, Early College Coordinators, Career Counselors, CTE Deans
- Complex Area Teams: CAS, SRS, RT

RELATED UPCOMING EVENTS: The following week of March 2, education expert Mark Perna will also be in town sharing innovations and strategies that are changing the education and workforce development paradigm nationwide. Community convenings sponsored by the Office of the State Director for Career and Technical Education, Hawai‘i State Department of Education, and the University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges will take place on Hawai‘i Island, Kaua‘i, Maui, and O’ahu. At these convenings, there will be an opportunity to hear Mark speak and time built into the agenda for regional teams to reflect and discuss next steps. As the importance of pathways work in Hawai‘i grows, we encourage you to also attend these meetings or send other members of your team.
