Our annual tribute to Hawaii Astronaut Charles Lacy Veach, which began 19 years ago, has been pivoted to a virtual event in 2020 due to the pandemic. This has created unique opportunities as we have reached out for workshops and speakers from Hawaii and outside Hawaii. Participants will also be able to learn from 12 mini workshops and demonstrations, mini keynotes and participate in a Galaxy Treasure Hunt for answers posed by STEM professionals from Hawaii.

Participants will also be able to apply for one of 50 STEM kits provided by Hardware Science and be invited to several live virtual field trips and laboratory workshops to be hosted in November and December.

Highlights: no registration required

When: October 24, 2020, 12:00 – 1:30 pm, Hawaii Standard time

Login: https://bit.ly/3i71sxp

Mini keynotes and welcome messages: Astronaut Chris Cassidy from the International Space Station, Master Navigator Nainoa Thompson, Astronaut Stan Love (Veach Day keynote 2009), Educator Astronaut Joe Acaba (Veach day keynote, 2019), President/CEO Scott Seu, Hawaiian Electric, family of Astronaut Lacy Veach

Mini workshops: make a Cartesian diver, a rotocopter, an air battery, a polymer bouncing ball, a balloon rocket car, learning coding to rendezvous a spacecraft with the International Space Station, use your cell phone camera to paint with light, take part in a galaxy cruise, see demonstrations on electrolysis, convection, density, center of gravity, elephant toothpaste and land your spacecraft on target.

Take part in the Galaxy Treasure Hunt for answers with questions and answers provided in “ads” and in workshops and submit via google quiz for invitations to live Virtual Field Trips and Laboratory workshops in November and December 2020, and random drawings for a Veach Day face mask and/or a Veach Day toolbox pen.

Register for one of 50 Hardware Science STEM kits and submit a video of your STEM challenge.
